Some Great Old Photos of Anderson

Sefton Manufacturing (later Container Corp) in Anderson is where my grandfather Albert Siddal McGranahan worked.  may be as early as 1925.

Lincoln St. School (between 12th & 13th on Lincoln) is where I went to Jr. High School.  We called it "Lincoln Jr. High" at the time - not Central.

Seventh St Elementary -  (real early photo)

Beverly Terrace Apartments (corner of Central Avenue and Eleventh Street).   Longfellow Elementary was located just across the street.

Old Bulletin Building (Main St.)

Anderson Bank Building (10th & Meridian).  Cousins Jewelers on corner and I remember Hoyt Wright's clothing store just down the street and Frisch's on the corner.  Look closely and you will see people crossing the street with the "scramble" system.  This started in (I think) around 1956.  A bell would ring and everyone "scrambled" to any corner or side they wanted.  All traffic was stopped all ways when this took place.

Anderson Federal Savings (11th and Jackson St.).  .

First Methodist Church (destroyed by fire in 1960).

State Theater. I don't remember the restaurant's name.  The movie (Yum Yum Tree) came out in 1963.  I was a senior in high school then.
State Theater (1950-original marquee)).  Air conditioning introduced.

Paramount Theater (Christmas - 1956).  Notice "scramble" lines painted on street.

(Sheila, These pictures were sent to Phil by  his cousin ,Jerry Levi Frost, AHS graduate 1951.  She knew and ran around some with Kay McClain.  Jerry received them from a friend of hers named Elaine and that is all I know at this time without getting more information from her.
